The main objective of the cluster is to raise the earnings and improving the
standard of living of the handloom weavers through planned interventions in the
Bhagalpur district. The key area of focus for the cluster development
will be creating a vibrant web presence, forming a strong marketing consortium;
and workshop and training interventions.
The industry makes 2 million meters of silk in a year. The annual turn
over of Bhagalpur is believed to be around 100 crores. The cluster
includes seven villages, Hussainabad, Champa Nagar, Kharik Bazaar, Purani,
Aliganj, Nathnagar and Ambabaug; the weavers in these villages specialize in
producing different varieties of silks like Tusser, Muga, Katia, Eri, Ghicchia,
and mulberry. They fashion some beautiful bed sheets, scarves, stoles, and
sarees, furnishing materials, cushion covers, curtains, table covers, runners
and dress material.
